Hey guys, it’s been awhile since my first Indie Spotlight post but I’m back with another! But first what is an Indie Spotlight?
This is a platform for me to talk about lesser known authors work and I hope others will do the same! It is one of my 2019 goals to read more indie work as I don’t want to miss something amazing.
I love the feeling of finding a good Indie read but then I feel the heartbreak when no one else has heard of it! It’s like being on an island with no one to talk to, no one understands what you’ve just been through. The feelings, the heartbreak.
This week’s indie spotlight is on Melanie Karsak’s Steampunk Fairy Tale series. This is a steampunk series retelling some classic tales, published by indie publishing company Clockpunk Press.
O man this series! I am not one for reading series in a row but I read 3 of the 4 books in 3 days. Before I get into why I love it. . . what is it?
Curiouser and Curiouser – Melanie Karsak
To save the Hatter, Alice must work with the one man she despises so much that she might still love him. Alice thought she’d turned over a new leaf. No more working for Jabberwocky. No more making deals with the ruthless Queen of Hearts. No more hanging around The Mushroom with tinkers, tarts, scoundrels, and thieves in London’s criminal underbelly. But she’d been bonkers to dream. Hatter’s reckless behavior leads Alice back to the one person she never wanted to see again, Caterpillar. Pulled into Caterpillar’s mad schemes, Alice must steal a very big diamond from a very royal lady. The heist is no problem for this Bandersnatch. But protecting her heart from the man she once loved? Impossible. Sometimes love is mad.
This is such an amazing series, they are all very slightly linked and the further I got in the series the more in love I was.
The fairytales covered are:
- Alice and Wonderland
- Snow Queen
- Beauty and Beast
The steampunk elements are so fun and each lead character sees the elements completely differently. My favourite is Beauty and Beastly which has Belle as a tinker making different devices and the romance is so sweet!
They are short and each book wraps up the main characters story perfectly. It feels like such a magical land when you read it and you can’t help but want to live there.
The main characters are strong and have their own goals in life and the romance just completes it. You will also fall in love with the side characters and want to see more about them.
I would highly recommend checking this series out just because it is amazing!
What indie read would you recommend?
