Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme created by Lainey and currently hosted by Sam of Thoughts on Tomes. I hadn’t thought about if I wanted to start Top 5 Wednesday on my blog but when I saw the topic I couldn’t resist! *Sips tea in preparation.*
This weeks T5W topic is hyped 2019 releases you don’t care about and I am here for it! I love knowing what releases I don’t care for because it means I can focus on other books. I also secretly love seeing what other readers don’t want to read! My opinion like everyone’s is individual so if you are looking forward to these releases with all your heart that’s great!
The Wicked King – Holly Black

I’ve seen this book everywhere and I mean everywhere for the last 6 months. I feel like I could describe the cover with my eyes closed at this point. It’s got to the point were it’s too much! I’ve had Cruel Prince on my kindle for half a year and still haven’t touched it, one day but not until all the hype dies down!
King of Scars – Leigh Bardugo

My stance on this book can be summed up in one word, ‘meh.’ I’ve read the first book in the Shadow and Bone trilogy and both books in the Six of Crows duology and I feel this is just not the world for me.
Chain of Gold – Cassandra Clare

I’ve read the first two books in the Mortal Instruments series and that was enough for me. I wasn’t fussed on the writing style or the characters. If I wanted to read this book I would have to slog through 6 other books at least discounting TMI. This girl just doesn’t have time for that!
Deviat3 – Jay Kristoff

The only real reason this is on here is because it is released before Darkdawn. Yes I am that salty about waiting the extra 4 months for the most likely heart destroying conclusion of The Nevernight Chronicles. I need my Mister Kindly stat!
The Priory of the Orange Tree – Samantha Shannon

I am a lover of fantasy, I love medieval worlds, assassins and magic and whatnot. I feel that what I’m about to write may sound strange coming from a lover of fantasy. I don’t like dragons. I repeat I do not like dragons! I don’t know what it is but I can’t read fantasy with them in it. Yes I am strange!
Looking back through my top 5 it appears there are very little super hyped books I’m looking forward to!
Are you looking forward to any of these books?
Is there any hyped books you don’t care about? Spill the tea!
So much yes to Cassandra Clare and Leigh Bardugo’s upcoming releases. I’m always like “oh that’s nice” and then continue to scroll through goodreads. 😂😂😂 Much mood, such relating! Great list!

I want to read The Cruel Prince and start the Mortal Instruments because I’m a million books behind. Unfortunately, the hold list at my library for both titles is a million people long (I’m number 50-60 on 1 copy of each book) and I don’t have the money to buy books at the moment, so I’m probably going to have to deal with being out of the loop right now.

Aww dang that’s a huge list to be on! Hopefully everyone will read them super quickly so you get to start them

Oh I agree with the Wicked King – I enjoyed the first book but I just haven’t felt bothered enough to be excited about it!

I think it’s hard when everyone else is so hyped up it just burns me out

I feel the same about The Wicked King. It just doesn’t have any appeal to me.

You haven’t met Nikolai! He comes into view in siege & storm. I am really looking forward to King of scars, but cannot be bothered by the wicked king. I really didn’t like the cruel prince. I am going to start diving into the shadowhunter universe pretty soon though!

Yeah seems I am the complete opposite to the releases

As someone that 1) doesn’t like dragons, 2) doesn’t like faes, 3) never read the Grishaverse and 4) doesn’t like Cassandra Clare, I deeply relate to this post.

I love this list, especially since after my SoC nightmare King of Scars has landed on my nevermind pile. I really want to read Priory but my GOD is it huge. I am reading the extract now and will gauge whether or not to continue from that experience.

I haven’t heard of The Priory of the Orange Tree, probably because everyone and their families are talking about The Wicked King (meh, I can wait, no big deal) and King of Scars (liked Nikolai, not a fan of the Shadow and Bone trilogy). The other books tend to be bypassed. I’m super excited for Chain of Gold, though, even though I didn’t like TMI (and won’t be finishing that series either). I adored the characters for TID so that’s really the only reason why. 😂

I liked the idea of the setting of TID because I love steampunk elements. I think they are definitely the most hyped books this year!

Nice list! The Priory of the Orange Tree is definitely the one that I don’t care about. It’s mainly because of its size. I am afraid of big books 😀 I can understand why you don’t care about The Wicked King. I haven’t read The Cruel Prince yet but somehow I want to read this series 🙂

Haha you have almost all my most anticipated on this list. And i agree I’m also salty that Darkdawn was pushed back. Plus the Rat Bastard keeps hinting that we are not prepared for it.

Lol I love that it’s the complete opposite. That’s what makes readers awesome

I totally agree with the Cass Clare deal; I read like four of the first books and then tried the one set back in the Victorian era and none of them worked. I also lost a lot of respect for Clare after reading some pieces about her plagiarism scandals among other things. I respect her fans but not her work!

Yeah I’m the same with it just not working

I have to admit that I am hyped for King of Scars and also for Lifelike! But because I haven’t particularly been following the other authors… I’m not that hyped about their latest releases either!!

I hope you really enjoy them!

I’ve read The Cruel Prince and well.. I didn’t DNF it but I don’t remember sh*t about it lol it just became a giant tangle of whininess in the end that I gave up haha yes to everything you wrote though! Well, besides the Jay Kristoff one cause I still haven’t read Nevernight fully. AND I DON’T LIKE DRAGONS TOO! VIRTUAL HIGH FIVE 🖐

I can’t stand whininess in books lately. No dragon hi5!

I am not a big fantasy reader, so these were not on my radar, though, I am interested in the new Shadowhunters book. I am in too deep in that world, and the Will and Tessa connection is too much for me to resist.

I feel like it can be either a vortex or a tornado for readers, she completely sucks you into the world or you just get spit out!
