Why I’m Thankful For My Library – Library Love Challenge

As soon as I could read I would go to the library weekly to find what worlds I wanted to be lost in. As those twenty years have went past I’ve used the library for many things and I’m so thankful for it’s existence! I want to share with you all the reasons why I love my library!

With this I will also be signing up to the Library Love Challenge by Angels Guilty Pleasures. The goal is to read at least twelve library books in 2019, each level has a name, I’m aiming for thrifty reader, especially since I’m saving for a house!

  • Dewey Decimal: Read 12 books
  • Thrifty Reader: Read 24 books
  • Junky: Read 36 books
  • Library Addict: Read 48 books

Now on to what I am thankful for!:

Finding My Love Of Reading

The library has fed my love for reading for many many years and will continue to feed it for many more. I remember going to the library to pick up books like The Wizard of Oz and of course Winnie the Pooh and falling in love with them. The feeling of excitement when a new book was in my hand was magical!

A Study Hall

During Uni the library was the perfect haven for studying, it was quiet had free computers to do coursework on and you could take a break to find your next read. Perfect! Anytime I needed to find out more for a topic all I had to do was to look at the shelves around me.

A Place To Go

The library is perfect for people like me who don’t want to be alone in the house but also don’t want to talk to people. It’s relaxing to simply go to the library to read on the sofa as other people are doing the same. I also feel immediately at ease when I’m surrounded by books so it definitely helps when I am feeling anxious.

Zero Judgement Of Reading Tastes

I am a lover of middle grade novels, lately I’ve fell in love with Matt Haig’s Christmas series and Chris Riddell’s Goth Girl. When I am searching the middle-grade section as a 26 year old there is no judgement and I feel relaxed knowing that I can read what I want.

Requesting Books

The libraries I go to are part of a 98 library strong network in Northern Ireland. The book I want could be in any of these libraries and if I want it, it magically gets to my library! There is a small charge but I will happily give money to the library after all its done for me.

Varying My Reading Tastes

I am a proud stinge, I won’t spend money on a book I don’t know if I will like. That being said if the same book is in the library I will pick it up. I’ve found many of my favourite books through this (I’m looking at you book thief). This gives me a chance to try something different . . . for free!

These are only a few of the reasons I’m thankful for my library, if I wrote them all the post would never end!

Are you thankful for your library? Did it have a hand in turning you into a reader?

libraries are awesome! and so are librarians – I volunteered at my local library in high school and got to see how much work goes on behind the scenes, it’s incredible. not to leave out school libraries and librarians, of course; that’s where I got a lot of my books and recommendations šŸ™‚

I love libraries. I used to work in a public library and now I’m a library assistant at a college (I went to school to be a librarian and everything). I still go a lot to take part in their events, but I used to go all the time as a kid too – it’s how I found most books I read.
